Kingsbridge is located in the South Hams, an area renowned for being Of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is also referred to by some as capital of the South Hams, as it serves a large number of smaller towns in the surrounding area including Salcombe, Thurlestone, Hope Cove and many more. Kingsbridge is a bustling market town situated on the head of an unusual estuary, notable for the fact it has no river flowing into it but instead is made up from flooded valleys.
Perhaps because of this estuary, Kingsbridge provides sheltered sailing and a truly picturesque quay, which makes even the most adamant of land lovers begin to daydream of setting off for a leisurely sail, on one of the beautiful boats moored up.
But Kingsbridge provides more than just a pleasurable quay. It enjoys the best of both worlds. Not only set on a beautiful coastline with a choice of beautiful beaches, such as Bigbury with it’s famous Burgh Island and all within easy reach, but also being surrounded by a landscape of charming countryside, populated abundant wildlife. More exotic wildlife can also be found at nearby Dartmoor Wildlife Park, while just a few miles to the North are the spectacular moors of the Dartmoor National Park. Add to this the miles of coastal paths stretching through Kingsbridge in either direction, each with picturesque villages on route (perfect to stop and ‘refresh’ ones self), and you have a walkers paradise.
For the non-walkers Kingsbridge still has plenty to offer. The bustling market town has many quaint shops, pubs and cafés to keep visitors happy. For families there is the local adventure park Sorley Tunnel, right on the doorstep, and Woodlands Adventure Park which is also close-by.
There are also many special events held in Kingsbridge each year. These include the Kingsbridge Midsummer Music Festival, Dart Music Festival, Kingsbridge Fair Week, Kingsbridge Agricultural Show, and around Christmas time, the Kingsbridge Extravaganza!
