Ilfracombe

Ilfracombe is situated along Devon's northern coastline of spectacular cliffs and award winning beaches. Previously home to Henry Williamson, who's book 'Tarka the Otter' embossed the name 'Tarka' onto the surrounding countryside for ever, Ilfracombe remains one of North Devon's most popular resorts.

A charming harbour can be found at its heart, with cafes and restaurants in plentiful supply dotted outwards through the town. Recently, the new Landmark Theatre has been constructed, offering a many different productions throughout the year. The theatre is noted for it striking architecture, itself winning an award for just that.

More family orientated attractions in the local area of Ilfracombe include theme parks and Country Parks which are guaranteed to keep the kids happy when they aren't enjoying the beach. Those of you who like walking or cycling will love the Tarka Trail. A safe route that takes you through the stunning countryside made famous by 'Tarka the Otter'. If cycling sounds like too much like hard work, the route can be enjoyed just as much at a more leisurely walking pace! Indeed, Ilfracombe provides some of the finest walking country England has to offer.  Exmoor National Park and the South West Coastal Path being right on your doorstep!

For surfers, Ilfracombe has some excellent bays and coves, which while sheltered on the sunny beaches, offer up some exciting surf. The North Devon coastline is well supplied with waves from the Atlantic especially out of season. Ilfracombe is even described by some as a surfers paradise.  Many beach based sports are catered for and beginners are just as welcome as the experts, to enjoy surfing and sailing from most of the 'Blue Flag' award winning beaches.

Ilfracombe was originally popularised by the Victorians and much of its character from this period is retained today. There are many public gardens, originating from this era, entering the Britain In Bloom competition every year, with notable success. A fact that Ilfracombe is very proud of.

In summery, a self catering holiday in Ilfracombe would not disappoint and the steadily growing number of return visitors each year will vouch for that!
