The quaint market town of Honiton is situated in the
south-east area of Devon. It is most famous for its historical cloth
production and trading during medieval times, which was later developed
into a thriving lace trade, exporting far and wide. Allhallows Museum holds the
World's most comprehensive collection of Honiton Lace, a
‘must see’ for anyone who values quality and
heritage. You can even try your hand at lace making. As a result of its
history, you'll find many specialist lace and pottery shops in Honiton,
as well as an increasing amount of antique dealers, for which Honiton
is also fast becoming famous.

Nowadays, agriculture is Honiton's main industry and the rich farmland that spreads over the rolling hills between the town and the sea has enabled Honiton to become a very prosperous town.
Honiton is an interesting town architecturally. Many of its original buildings were sadly destroyed by fires in the 18th Century, but this terrible disaster then provided a blank canvas on which to start afresh. Consequently, the buildings constructed since have given Honiton a particularly unique ‘18th Century’ feel making it a most attractive place in which to live or visit.
And there is always plenty for visitors to do in Honiton. For shop-aholics in particular, there is an excellent shopping centre and a twice weekly market; perfect for picking up a barging, or especially that rare antique you've always been looking for! Whilst or the more active visitors, there are also very good sports facilities. And as special treat for the little and ‘big kids’ in the family, why not look in on Diggerland just down the road at Willand. In addition to all this, the many local footpaths and lanes offer superb walking and rambling opportunities, with trails that are full of wildlife and beautiful scenery.
With it’s excellent selection of nearby pub restaurants, such as The Greyhound at Fenny Bridges, The Sidmouth Arms at Upottery, and The Kings Arms in nearby Stockland, plus many more local pubs and cafes, all the other amenities one would expect from a popular self-catering destination, Honiton is a real winner.
So, it goes without saying that self-catering break in Honiton would certainly not be regretted.
